In Bauer, you go on a journey through the Troll Forest to see who is the biggest adventurer. Collect cards that tell the story of your adventure and are worth different amount of points depending on what other cards you have collected. In the end, the player with most points has been on the biggest adventure and wins the game!

Bauer is a card drafting game for 2-5 players that features a unique draft mechanic and cards with multiple uses. It takes around 15 minutes to play and is recommended for ages 8 and up.

But how do you score points?

Well, there are four different card types that score you points in different ways. The basic cards are Event, Travel and Danger. In addition to points, these card types also have tags that you can collect to complete Quests from the last card type, Characters!

And that's how to play Bauer! If you want to dive deeper into the rules you can check out the rulebook for a little bit more detail.

John Bauer was a Swedish painter active in the early 20th century. He is known for his illustrations of enchanting forests inhabited by trolls, fairy princesses and other fantastical beings. Most of his illustrations was made to accompany stories in the book series "Among Tomtar and Trolls". And for over 100 years the wonderful illustrations by John Bauer has been introduced through these stories to Swedish children. His work has been a source of inspiration for fantasy illustrators and folklore enthusiasts for a long time and his legacy can be felt in everything from classic Disney movies to The lord of the rings.

Since John Bauer passed away in 1918, all his work have entered the public domain. Thus we decided to take this opportunity to further spread the magic of Bauer throughout the world using his original illustrations.

About the Print & Play

There are two versions of Bauer that you can download, a free and an official version.  Here is an overview of the differences between them.

  • Official version has crosses to show where to cut instead of lines.
  • Official version has colored and black borders instead of white and grey borders.
  • Official version has rulebook for printing.

The Free version is better if you just want to try out the game in the easiest way.  The way we recommend is to print out just the face of the cards. Cut them out with scissors and put them in plastic card sleeves along with a regular playing card to make them easy to handle. The size of the cards is a standard poker card/Magic the gathering card.

The official version is better if you want to spend more time on making your Print & Play as nice as you can.

A Crowdfunded Game

We crowdfunded  this game on Kickstarter between November 22- december 15 2023. You can visit our shop if you're interested in having the printed version.

Bauer is also on Board game geek.

We hope you have a great time playing Bauer!

Awesome game! I just got the official version I'm excited to craft it! Do you have the tuckbox art in a PDF or the actual template?

Hello! Thanks for the tip, the deckbox is now added to the downloadable files. Hope it's not too complicated to put together, good luck!

Thank you!

DUUUUDE I SAW THIS GAME ON REDDIT

This game looks great! Will you be adding card backs to the PNP version?

Glad you think so! Sure, I can add a file for the card backs. :)
